Rosendal township, located in the Free State, is a rural community with an estimated population of 12,000 residents. The area suffers from a staggering 70% unemployment rate, with poor service delivery exacerbating the situation. Substance abuse is a prevalent issue in the community, contributing to a complex web of related problems including rape, domestic violence, murder, depression, and suicide. Collaborating with partner organisation NPO Sustainable Community Development (SCD), Ma Tiger Foundation (MTF) is well positioned to effect tangible benefits in the community.

Neighbouring Mautse, SCD has worked a small farm since 2015. Practicing *permaculture and regenerative agriculture, strides have been made in addressing food security on the teaching farm. As a service provider to Urban Harvest, SCD implemented an ABSA sponsored food garden to supplement the school-feeding programme at the primary school. Head-master of the Mautse school has reported lower absenteeism since the inception of the garden. Foundation for Human Rights has sponsored growing tunnels and a training course for three Mautse women in 2024.

The partnerships focus on supporting community development: a holistic approach to the interconnected issues of food security, working towards gender-based peace, addressing mental health issues and including enterprise development for economic equality. This will ultimately lead to more resilient and thriving communities.
